About the Owners
Megan Kanekoa: Hailing from the Great Northwest, Megan has had a love affair with coffee for over 10 years. Starting her first drive thru espresso stand in Washington State gave her an invaluable amount of information and dedication to the café culture. Upon moving to Maui, she missed the perfect cup of joe, leading her to embark upon the wonderful adventure that is Wailuku Coffee Co.
Jacqueline Goring: It was love at first sip – a perfect mocha latte during a late night cram session in college – when Jackie first became enamored of café culture. Having worked within the industry since then, becoming co-owner and operator of Wailuku Coffee Company is the perfect outlet for her love and creativity in coffee, food, arts, music and community.
Both Jackie and Megan are mothers and share the first sign of Chinese Zodiac: Rat. Our love of coffee, community, arts, and hard work brought us together to create this place – where the hip come to sip! We invite you to come relax and stay a while; enjoy laughter over lattes and lunch. Thank you for your support. We couldn’t be hip without you!
Did You Know?
Back in the 20’s , where Wailuku Coffee Company is now located used to be the First Hanada Service Station.
In that era, Wailuku motorists enjoyed curbside service at Yuichi Hanada’s station on the east side of Market Street, directly across from Baldwin Bank. Hanada also filled the tanks of his taxi cab and car rental fleet here. Among the automotive offerings: Red Crown gasoline and Zerolene motor oil. The portable compressor and tank in the doorway on the left was used for servicing tires. Next door was the Wailuku Vulcanizing Works – telephone 147 – and beyond that was the dental office of Dr. LC Smith.
